Mayers Memorial Healthcare District CFO Travis Lakey Recognized by Becker's Healthcare for Third Time
Fall River Mills, Calif. – Mayers Memorial Healthcare District (MMHD) is proud to announce that Chief Financial Officer Travis Lakey has once again been recognized by Becker's Hospital Review as one of the nation's top healthcare financial leaders in its prestigious "180 Hospital and Health System CFOs to Know | 2026" list.
This marks the third time Lakey has been recognized by Becker's Healthcare, following his inclusion on the publication's Rural Hospital and Health System CFOs to Know lists in 2023and 2024. His inclusion on the 2026 national list places him among an elite group of just 180 healthcare CFOs nationwide. Of those recognized, only 11 represent California health systems, and only a small number serve rural or Critical Access Hospitals, making Lakey's recognition especially significant for a frontier healthcare district serving the Intermountain region of northeastern California.
Lakey has served as Chief Financial Officer for Mayers Memorial Healthcare District since 2009. During his tenure, he has been instrumental in transforming the financial health of the organization. Widely credited with helping lead the district from the brink of bankruptcy to long-term financial stability, Lakey's strategic leadership and sound financial stewardship have positioned MMHD for continued growth while ensuring access to high-quality healthcare services for the residents of the Intermountain region.
Under Lakey's financial leadership, Mayers Memorial Healthcare District has strengthened its fiscal foundation, expanded healthcare services, invested in facilities and technology, recruited healthcare providers, and continued to improve access to care for one of California's most rural communities. His commitment to responsible stewardship has helped ensure the district remains financially strong while fulfilling its mission of providing exceptional healthcare close to home.
Beyond his work at MMHD, Lakey is widely respected as a leader in healthcare finance throughout California. He currently serves as:
• Chair, California Critical Access Hospital Network (CCAHN) CFO Committee (2023–Present)
• Member, California Office of Health Care Affordability Advisory Board (2024–Present)
• Member, Association of California Healthcare Districts (ACHD) Finance Committee (2024–Present)
• Treasurer, Sacramento Valley Med Share (2026–Present)
He previously served on the California Hospital Association (CHA) CFO Legislative Group from 2022 to 2024 and continues to advocate for policies that strengthen rural healthcare throughout the state.
"Leading the finances of a frontier Critical Access Hospital requires balancing fiscal responsibility with a steadfast commitment to preserving local healthcare. Travis has demonstrated that balance year after year, helping transform Mayers Memorial Healthcare District into a financially strong and sustainable organization. His leadership has benefited not only our hospital, but the entire Intermountain community, making this national recognition especially meaningful. We are incredibly proud to celebrate this well-deserved honor for the third time."
Becker's Hospital Review's annual "180 Hospital and Health System CFOs to Know" list recognizes healthcare financial executives who demonstrate exceptional leadership, financial expertise, innovation, and a commitment to advancing their organizations and the communities they serve.
