Local Students Build Life Skills and Resilience Through Evidence-Based Program

More than 200 students in 4th through 6th grades at Fall River and Burney Elementary Schools
recently completed the BOTVIN LifeSkills Training program—an eight-week, nationally
recognized, evidence-based curriculum focused on healthy decision-making and substance use
prevention.

Designed to be engaging and age-appropriate, the program teaches students how to navigate peer pressure, resist the influence of media and advertising, and understand the dangers of smoking. It also equips them with practical skills for managing stress, boosting self-esteem, and communicating effectively.

This impactful initiative was made possible through funding from the Shasta County Asset Forfeiture Funds for Youth Intervention Programs and was led by Tri County Community Network (TCCN). Executive Director Marrisa Martin delivered the program directly in classrooms, building meaningful connections with students while providing tools to support their lifelong wellness.

“Giving kids the knowledge and confidence to make healthy choices is one of the best investments we can make in our community,” said Martin. “It’s about empowering them to thrive.”

The program underscores TCCN’s mission to strengthen the Intermountain region through prevention, education, and strong community partnerships.
