Mayers Memorial Healthcare District Plans for Solar Project to Reduce Energy Costs

Mayers Memorial Healthcare District is excited to announce an beneficial new solar project aimed at reducing our operational costs, decreasing our carbon footprint, and enhancing our energy independence. This groundbreaking initiative aligns with our commitment to providing high-quality healthcare services while embracing sustainability and responsible resource management.

There are compelling reasons behind this solar project, including:

Offsetting Growing Electric Bills: Mayers Memorial Healthcare District has witnessed a steady increase in our electric bills over the years. By harnessing solar energy, we aim to offset these costs significantly, ensuring financial sustainability for the organization.

Reducing Carbon Footprint: As part of our commitment to environmental stewardship, we are taking steps to reduce our carbon footprint. The solar project will allow us to generate clean, renewable energy.

Enhancing Energy Independence: In addition to solar panels, future projects will include the integration of battery storage systems. This forward-thinking approach will enable us to store excess energy and reduce our dependency on the electrical grid during peak demand or emergencies, ensuring continuity of care for our patients.

Cost Savings:

The Mayers Memorial Healthcare District solar project is anticipated to involve the following costs:

Upfront Cost: $2,368,800

Equipment Replacement: $45,360

Operations and Maintenance: $78,960

However, these investments are expected to yield substantial returns:

Estimated Electric Bill Savings: $5,633,066

State and Federal Rebates: $1,510,583

Over the 25-year lifespan of the system, the total savings are projected to be $4,650,530. Please note that these figures are subject to change until a contract is finalized.

Logistics:

Construction for the solar project is scheduled to commence in April 2024 and is expected to be completed within one year.

Public Comment Period:

We value the input of our community and stakeholders. To facilitate public engagement, there will be a public comment period during our board meeting on October 25th. Prior to the meeting, we will publish information in the local paper two weeks in advance to ensure everyone has the opportunity to voice their opinions and concerns.

Mayers Memorial Healthcare District is committed to making responsible decisions that benefit our patients, our community, and our planet. We believe that this solar project exemplifies our dedication to sustainability, fiscal responsibility, and delivering exceptional healthcare services.
