Mayers Memorial Healthcare District Earns Prestigious BETA Award for Outstanding Slip, Trip, Fall Program Implementation

Mayers Memorial Healthcare District is proud to announce that it has been honored with the prestigious BETA Award for its exceptional implementation of the Slip, Trip, Fall (STF) prevention program. The award was presented during the Annual BETA Symposium, recognizing the district's commitment to employee safety and injury prevention. This remarkable achievement underscores Mayers Memorial Healthcare District's dedication to creating a safer work environment for all.

The BETA Award is a testament to the outstanding efforts of Mayers Memorial Healthcare District in addressing both common and hidden hazards associated with slips, trips, and falls. The program, led by Safety Officer Dana Hauge and supported by Chief Human Resources Officer Libby Mee, has been instrumental in enhancing workplace safety. Hauge's leadership and expertise played a vital role in obtaining this certification. Additionally, Sherry Yochum, Environmental Services Manager and Alex Johnson, Plant Operations Manager and their staffs were vital in all steps of implementation of the prevention program.

Slips, trips, and falls are a significant concern across various industries, and the healthcare sector is no exception. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the healthcare industry's incidence rate of lost-workday injuries related to STFs was 38.2 per 10,000 employees, a staggering 90% higher than the average rate for all other private industries combined. Recognizing the critical importance of addressing this issue, OSHA has made STFs one of its top five focus hazards during inspections in hospitals, nursing facilities, and residential care facilities.

The STF program implemented by Mayers Memorial Healthcare District tackles both environmental hazards and human factors, ensuring the safety of employees, patients, and visitors alike. By proactively identifying and mitigating these risks, the program helps prevent injuries that can have severe physical and financial implications for individuals and the organization.

Libby Mee, Chief Human Resources Officer at Mayers Memorial Healthcare District, expressed her gratitude and pride in the team's achievement, saying, "We are honored to receive the BETA Award for our commitment to workplace safety. Our organization places the utmost importance on the well-being of our staff, patients, and visitors, and this recognition reaffirms our dedication to creating a safer environment for all."

Dana Hauge, Safety Officer at Mayers Memorial Healthcare District, added, "This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team. We will continue to strive for excellence in safety practices and ensure that we maintain the highest standards in preventing slips, trips, and falls within our healthcare facility."

Mayers Memorial Healthcare District remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting a culture of safety and looks forward to further initiatives aimed at ensuring the well-being of everyone within its care.
