It is the goal of the Department of Pharmacy Services to ensure that the medication use process in our facility is the safest possible. Medication safety starts with initial order review, continues through product selection and compounding, delivery to the patient care unit, administration by nursing staff and is completed with documenting the administration. In the past year, the pharmacy department has implemented several systems to improve the safety of the medication use process. Initial order review and product selection has been improved through technology support. Sterile product compounding meets national standards. Plans are in place to automate the administration and documentation steps of the medication use process.
To make our medication use process after-hours as safe as possible, we partnered with UC-Davis Medical Center Pharmacy.
